"BETTER LOOK BOTH WAYS" by David Guilbault Better look both ways Before you take a step. Better look both ways Before you step into the fray. Coming from the left. Coming from the right. Coming at you now With all they got, with all their might. Look out, look out. Look out, look out. Well, here they come, They’re coming on strong. They long for a fight. They follow like fools. A mob that’s easily ruled. They’re led to believe That those they need are their enemies. Beware, beware. Beware, beware. Here they come. They’re blind and dumb and numb with fear. Better look ahead Before look behind. Better look real good Because they could be out of their minds. Hear ye, hear ye. Hear ye, hear ye. Better look both ways Before you play with your liberties. Better look both ways Before you take a step. Better look both ways Before you step into the fray. "Better Look Both Ways" ©2010 David Guilbault

"COME INSIDE" by David Guilbault Here it comes. Here we go again. You’re out there standing in the pouring rain. Dry your eyes. Dry your eyes. Dry your eyes. Come inside. We can work this out. We can find a way. We can listen to what each other has to say. Dry your eyes. Dry your eyes. Dry your eyes. Come inside. Love lives here. Love has no fear. Take my hand. Kiss my lips. Our world can’t get any better than this. Look in my eyes. Look in my eyes. Look in my eyes. Come inside. Love lives here. Love has no fear. This is how it was meant to be. I’m here for you and you’re here for me. Open your eyes. Open your eyes. Open your eyes. Come inside. Come inside. Love lives here. "Come Inside" © 2010 David Guilbault

"DREAM ON" by David Guilbault When you wake up from a dream, eyes open to the sun, Your nighttime may have ended, but your day has just begun. Dream on - life's a fantasy. Dream on - what is meant to be. Dream on. Early in the morning, late into the night, You gotta grab your pleasure. You gotta do what's right. Dream on - the time is short. Dream on - storms in every port. Dream on. Listen to me children. Listen to my song. Those with good intentions, can always do you wrong. Dream on - go seek the truth. Dream on - there are wounds to soothe. Dream on. There always will be battles, by those who need it so. They'll take what they can carry, leaving nothing left to grow. Dream on - go plant your seed. Dream on - always look for need. Dream on. When you go to look for love, you better know your way around. When you find your heart is broken, and you're losing all your ground, Dream on - love is all there is. Dream on - that is all to this. Dream on. "Dream On" © 2010 David Guilbault.

"FULL MOON" by David Guilbault I’m flying through a full moon, Through a night of cobalt blue. It’s the strangest color hue I’ve ever seen. I’m flying through a full moon, Trying to fix a view. Plying my way through this inky sky. I’m afraid I’ll die. The moon is full. The night is strange. The moonlight blinds the eyes in pain. Nothing seems to be The way it’s supposed to be. Everything is out of phase. I’m flying through a full moon, Tumbling towards the gloom. Feeling the chills of doom through the flight. I’m afraid I’ll die. I got no plane. I got no wings. I’m falling free between my dreams. Too high above the ground. I hear a crashing sound. But there’s just underground for me. I’m flying through a full moon, I need something to hold on to, Something to help me hold on to the sky. ‘Cause I’m afraid I’ll die. "Full Moon" © 2010 David Guilbault.

"GIMME MORE TIME" by David Guilbault Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, gimme, more time. Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, gimme, more time. I can take whatever you got And then I’ll want some more. Ev’ry tick and tock and striking Of the clock that I am livin’ for. Time is something that is nothing But a notion we can’t own. We can take our time until it’s up And life is all but flown. Ev’ry single day and ev’ry night And ev’ry year goes by. Still there’s nothing we can do to Really stop the time that flies. Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, gimme, more time. Gimme, gimme, gimme, Gimme, gimme, gimme, more time. There is so much more in store and More for me to see and do. Ev’ry minute left in life is Really meant to live it through. "Gimme More Time" © 2009 David Guilbault

"IF I WERE A TREE" by David Guilbault If I were a tree, I’d pull up my roots, Go wander free, out of the woods. I’d let all my leaves, each blow away, Scatter my seeds, wherever they lay. I’d see ev’ry land, from ocean to sea. I’d make no plans. I would just be. But, no … If I were a tree, I’d bask in the sun, Sop the cool water, grow tall and strong. I’d turn colorful leaves, to show off my worth. I’d hum in the breeze, with a tight grip on earth. A work of art, that’s what I’d be, For all to honor, such a beauty to see. But, then again … If I were a tree, I would bear fruit, Sweet juicy nectar, from dawn’s morning dew. I’d offer my shade, my branches for swings, My wood a fine timber for building fine things. I’d grow with the time, as years went by, Measuring lives, helping provide. She paints the trees, stroking their lives. Memories past, aware of the light. Her corners bend in, Embracing themselves, Moments on canvass, as free as they tell. If she were a tree. But, then, she is. Wandering, towering, Nurturing, flowering, Revealing, flourishing, Creating, nourishing. If I were a tree, I would be this. "If I Were a Tree" © 2010 David Guilbault.

"LIVING LARGE IN MY DREAMS" by David Guilbault I’m living life – in my sleep. Reality – ain’t what it seems. I close my eyes – the curtains rise. I’m living large – in my dreams. They got places – I’ve never been. I go there now – ev’ry now and then. I fall to sleep – and there I am. I’m living large – in slumber land. Here come the places. There they go. Here come the faces. There they go. Here lie the traces I should know. I’m living large in my dreams. I go to bed – late at night. I sleep the day – past morning light. I find my way – through a dreamscape. I’m living large – not awake. This life is rich – with real delight. I see things – not seen in light. The darkness brings – what knowing can. I’m living large – in this land. Here come the places. There they go. Here come the faces. There they go. Here lie the traces I should know. I’m living large in my dreams. I can’t tell – what’s going on. The colors pale – into a song. There is wonder – in the scenes. I’m living large – or so it seems. The world that’s real – is not to be. This world inside – is where to see. It moves and morphs – like nothing else. I’m living large – inside myself. Here comes a vision. There it goes. Here comes a reason. There it goes. Here lies the truth I should know. I’m living large in my dreams. Don’t wake me up – let me sleep. I’m finding blinds – that open deep. I’m loos’ning binds – all worldly-bound. I’m living large – in what I found. I’m living life – in my sleep. Reality – ain’t what it seems. I close my eyes – the curtains rise. I’m living large – in my dreams. "Living Large in My Dreams" © 2010 David Guilbault.

"NOBODY TOLD THE BULL" by David Guilbault He was a rough and tumble rodeo man. He could ride them bulls like nobody can. He would ride ‘em hard, he would break ‘em down, Winning trophy buckles from town to town. Come one day, came his last ride. He was going out in winning style. He said he was the best, and ev’ryone knew. But, nobody told the bull. He was a wise and wily wilderness man. He could track a bear like nobody can. He would hunt ‘em down ‘til there weren’t no more, Bringing home a trophy rug for every floor. Come one day, came his last hunt. He was puttin’ down his big gun. He said he was the best, everyone would swear. But, nobody told the bear. Pride comes before the fall. When you think you’re all that, (1) That’s when you lose it all. (2) You ain’t nothin’ at all. Nobody told the bull. He was a slick and sexy ladies’ man. He could bed a woman like nobody can. He would pick ‘em up and he would lay ‘em down, Notches on his bedpost for the trophy rounds. Come one day, came his demise. He was talkin’ sweet through lyin’ eyes. He said he was the best, only he could scratch their itch. But, nobody told the ... "NOTHIN' TO ME" by David Guilbault Who is this guy named Jesus? You hear a lot about Him. Heard He walked on water, raised people from the dead. Had a band of followers, grew by millions through the ages. Died for their sins. Rose from the grave. Some say He gives their life meaning. They want to be like Him. They want to see Him when they go to their grave. He don’t mean nothin’ to me. Don’t mean nothin’ to me. He don’t mean nothin’ to me. Nothin’ to me. Who is this guy named Moses? I heard He parted waters. Seeker of the Promised Land, bringer of the Law. Humbled at a burning bush, graced with divine inspiration. Led his tribes to freedom. Was buried by God Himself. Some say He gives their life meaning, following commandments. Trusting in God, protector of the flock. Who is this guy named Buddha? I heard He was a big man. He set out walking and talking, mostly to his monks. They thought they should remember ev’rything He taught them. So they wrote it down. People talk about it still. Some say He gives their life meaning. They want to be like Him. He lived some as a beggar. I doubt they ever will. Who is this guy named Muhammad? I heard He was prophet. Said that God is One and all should bow to Him. Climbed up on the mountain, heard the words of angels, Divine revelations on how God created man. Some say He gives their life meaning. They’re ready to surrender, down on their knees, All prayers and alms to God. Now about this guy named Buddha. We've all felt the suffering. He said correct understanding brings enlightenment to see. But I don’t understand why monks have to set themselves on fire To enlighten a world filled with hunger, hate and poverty. Some say He gives their life meaning. They’re looking for nirvana. Well, if karma seals your fate, how can dharma set you free? Now about this guy named Jesus. You've heard about the killings? Christian Crusaders calling out His name. Slaughtering the Muslims. Waging war on Pagans. Murdering the heretics, the Mongols, Jews and Slavs. Some say He gives their life meaning. His plan should not be questioned. They follow in faith, hoping for Heaven's gate. Now about this guy names Moses. You've heard about Jerusalem. The Holiest of cities in the bloody Promised Land. Muslims, Jews and Christians fighting through the centuries. Burying their dead in the hallowed ground. Some say He gives their life meaning. They'll fight to their last breath. Quoting ancient scriptures. Killing for their Holy Land. Now about this guy Muhammad. You've heard about the jihad? Martyrs quick to bomb themselves to get to Heaven's door, Get themselves some virgins, drink from golden vessels. Here they clothe their women to stave an earthly urge. Some say He gives their life meaning, laws that can't be broken, Rules to show the way, ways to rule the world. Litanies and creeds. Holy books and sacred hymns. Pilgrimage and prayer. Ritual and faith. Getting down on your knees. Calling up to the Holy One. Intolerance and fear. Oppression in His name. Some need to find meaning in the life that They are given. Seeking God in Heaven when all is said and done. He don’t mean nothin’ to me. Don’t mean nothin’ to me. He don’t mean nothin’ to me. But I could be wrong. "Nothin' to Me" © 2009 David Guilbault.

"NOW IS OVER" by David Guilbault My journey isn’t over. But, I’ve reached the end of my road. My story’s far from over. Yet, there’s no more to be told. I keep dreaming the world is ending. Life’s upending; warm is cold. Now is over. (3x) Truth, be told. What we know can change in a moment. What was so can cease to be. We keep moving towards tomorrow, Keeping true to history. I keep dreaming the world is ending. Life’s upending; day is night. Now is over. (3x) See the light. It’s past the time to pay the piper for his song. The piper plays for just so long. Until your cache of life is gone. Nothing left here to hold on to. Still there’s so much more to say. There not enough time in a lifetime, When it’s taken all away. I keep dreaming, it’s just beginning. The end is starting; then is gone. Now is over. Now is over. Now is over. Hear my song. "Now Is Over" © 2009 David Guilbault.

"THAT PUNISHING RAIN" by David Guilbault I feel the breath on my neck, A blistering wind. It’s coming down hard now, That punishing rain. I’m wet to the bone again. I hear the steps at my back, A gathering storm. It’s coming down hard now, That punishing rain. I’m wet to the bone again. I don’t fear Jesus. But I’m afraid of my own hand. Lord I just can’t go through this again. I just can’t live through this again. I dread the knock on my door, A rising flood. It’s coming down hard now, That punishing rain. I’m wet to the bone again. I don’t fear Jesus. But I’m afraid of my own hand. Lord I just can’t go through this again. I just can’t live through this again. I await the hand on my heart, A beckoning calm. It’s coming down hard now, That punishing rain. I’m cold to the bone again. I’m cold to the bone again. "That Punishing Rain © 2009 David Guilbault

"THE LONGEST LIGHT" by David Guilbault A song is burning through the night. It never knows where it will light. It only goes where it is welcome. Welcoming doesn’t always come with ease. Minds go off with tragedies. Revelations wait in darkness. It’s the longest light that chooses to take flight. Only shows what’s right when all’s gone wrong. Here from far away. Sparks to show the way. Children stop at play to hear its song. The tune’s aborning in your head. It knows it’s long past time for bed. And melodies are fickle lovers. Each note won’t wait long for embrace. The music has to find its place, Or else it finds itself in darkness. It’s the longest light that longs to wake the sight. Strong enough to right what’s all gone wrong. And it’s going to take a lifetime To see what we have done. But it only takes a moment To know where we’ve come from. It’s the longest light that beams to show its might. Means to make it right when all’s gone wrong. "The Longest Night" © 2009 David Guilbault.

"THROUGH TO YOU" by David Guilbault Hey, baby, can’t you see That I’ve got eyes for you? Hey, baby, look at me. Tell me what I gotta do To get through – to you? To get through – to you? Hey, babe, that other guy Doesn’t want to stand by your side. If you take a glance my way You’ll see I wanna stay To get through – to you. To get through – to you. I’m fluffing my feathers, I’m flashing my smile, Just to get a look from you. I’m struttin’ my stuff, I’m walkin’ a mile, Just to find a way to you. Hey, babe, I’ve got the moves, If you would only see What I can do to prove That we were meant to be. Let me through – to you. Let me through – to you. I’m fluffing my feathers, I’m flashing my smile, Just to get a look from you. I’m struttin’ my stuff, I’m walkin’ a mile, Just to find a way to you. Hey, baby, can’t you see That I’ve got eyes for you? "Through to You" © 2010 David Guilbault.

"TWENTY-ONE CENTURIES" by David Guilbault The baby can’t cry, death in her eyes. Nothing in her belly for weeks. Mama can’t pray as she passes away. Another child dead to the streets. But, oh, no, no. I’m not gonna go there. Gotta think my happy thoughts. The world can be what I want it to be if I only think my happy thoughts. A woman held down on the battleground. Soldiers take her one-by-one. Ten-year-old boy pulled from his toys. Forced to take the life of the gun. But, oh, no, no, I’m not gonna go there. I’m only gonna live in my world. Flowers and trees and me dancing free. Nothing else but good in the world. All you need is love. Love is all you need. We’ve been trying to make that work for twenty-one centuries. A bomb is wired. A drone is fired. Innocents are blown to bits. God’s are evoked. Battle fires stoked. Fighting keeps the stock market fit. But, oh, no, no. I’m not gonna go there. Imagine that we all live in peace. The world at war will stay away from my door if we all just wish it to be. I’ll do unto you as you do unto me. We’ve been trying to make that work for twenty-one centuries. A man’s kept down. His color is brown. Otherness a crime of birth. Brothers in crime, doing hard time, losing ev’rything they are worth. But, oh, no, no. I’m not gonna go there. Ev’ryone’s a brother to me. We’ll all get along if we just sing this song and sing it out happily. Kumbaya, Lord. Whoa, Kumbaya. The cancer spreads. Sick in our beds. Nothing left for money to do. Homeless minds. Hopeless times. Nature knows that man is through. But, oh, no, no. I’m not gonna go there. Ev’rything is fine here for me. I don’t wanna know, I’m not gonna go where the hard truth wants me to be. Kumbaya, Lord. Whoa, Kumbaya. Hallelujah. Hare Krishna. Allah Akbar. Kumbaya. Hakuna Matata. Hava Nagila. Zip-i-dee-do-dah. Kumbaya. Ave Maria. Kama Sutra. Be-Bop-A-Lu-La. Sha-Na-Na. Give peace a chance. Love is all we need. Make the world a better place. Be all you can be. That shit hasn’t worked for twenty-one centuries. "Twenty-One Centuries" © 2009 David Guilbault.

"UNTIL THE TIME IS GONE" by David Guilbault Come and walk with me awhile. It’s been so long since I’ve seen your smile. Take my hand. Understand That I am here for you right now. It’s been a long time, my friend. And I’m so happy to see you again. If you need, a friend indeed, Look my way, take my hand. I’m not going anywhere. I’m gonna be right here Until the time is gone, Until the time is gone for me and you. Who’s to say what is gonna be? But, here today, you can look to me. I’ll be standing here. Reach for me, dear. I can help you hold on, look and see. I’m not going anywhere. I’m gonna be right here Until the time is gone, Until the time is gone for me and you. Come and walk with me awhile. "WHEN SHE GOT THAT RING" by David Guilbault She coulda had most anything. But she had to have that wedding ring. Ev’rything she said and done, Said her life had just begun When she got that ring. She wore that band like a golden crown. She took that man and she wore him down. Like a jester in her court, She made him dance until his feet were sore, When she got that ring. And oh-oh-oh. His time moved slow-o-ow. He thought about it for a time. He fought against it as the years went by. But down deep inside he knew The trials that she had put him through When she got that ring. And oh-oh-oh. It was time to go-o-o. And through his heartache, He saw the light. Felt his right. Took his flight. She got the house and the picket fence. She got the kids and the fancy friends. He got a hurt he can’t abide. He lost himself and slipped inside, When she got that ring. And oh-oh-oh. Still hurts him so-o-o. "When She Got That Ring" © 2010 David Guilbault
