"A LOSS FOR WORDS"
by David Guilbault
I can’t take it no more.
I’m at a loss for words.
Can’t believe what I’ve seen, what I’ve heard.
What is happening here,
Right before our eyes,
Is a dearth of truth, the birth of lies.
Too many deaf, dumb and blind.
Too many falling for cons.
I’m at a loss for words on what’s to be done.
I wanna say - Open your eyes.
I wanna say - See all the lies.
What some have branded as true,
What some will believe,
False frauds to conceal, to steal and deceive.
All the power and wealth,
All the lands and the seas,
All controlled by the ones with the webs to weave.
Too many deaf, dumb and blind.
Too many falling for cons.
I’m at a loss for words on how we go on.
I wanna say - Why can’t you see?
I wanna say - You’ve been deceived.
I can’t take it no more.
I’m at a loss for words.
Can’t believe what I’ve seen, what I’ve heard.

"AROUND YOU"
by David Guilbault
Not gonna play
Your games anymore.
Not gonna stay
Around you.
Finding my way.
Op’ning the door.
No more to say
Around you.
Around you I feel less than I am.
Around you I’m a mess of man.
Around you the darkness hurts my soul.
Around you the sadness takes its toll.
I’ve unlocked the chain
You put ‘round my heart.
I’m free from the pain,
The sorrow and doubt.
You weakened my life
With your unholy words,
Sowing heartache and strife
Around you.
Around you the nightshade drops its seeds.
Around you the toxins grow like weeds.
Not gonna play
Your games anymore.
Not gonna stay
Around you.

"BLOOD ON THE MICROPHONE"
by David Guilbault
There is blood on the microphone
From the wounds in my heart,
As I sing of the pain of us apart.
There were tears on the telephone
As you told me goodbye
And I wept for the love that passed us by.
And I cry. And I cry.
From the daggers that bleed me to the bone,
Leave me staggered and bleeding all alone.
There is blood on the microphone
As I bleed out from you.
I am drained. I am blue.
(Whistle Verse)
There is blood on the microphone
From the stories I tell
Of the times you put me through this hell.
There are tears that are mine alone
That I only shed for you,
For the heartache and hurt you put me through.
And I cry. And I cry.
And I cry. And I cry.
There is blood on the microphone.

"CHORD OF THE PEOPLE"
by David Guilbault
It’s the chord of the people - that I play for you.
It’s the cry of the balladeer - to sing out the truth.
It’s the raising of my voice - which longs to be heard.
It’s a simple call to listen - and hear ev’ry word.
I mean my words to be dangerous.
I mean my songs to silence a room.
I see days that endanger us.
I see nights of darkening gloom.
So the song it is written - sincere in its tale.
Reveal all un-hidden, forbidden - behind the veil.
Solve all the mysteries. Salve all the wounds.
Resolve all the histories lost in the rules and the ruins.
The song I sing is sung for purpose.
There is meaning in the rhyme.
What it says will not hurt us.
It’s the honest toll of the bell and strike of the chime.
The place is here. The time is now.
This is my truth, if you will allow.
It’s the chord of the people - that I play for you.
It’s the cry of the balladeer - to sing out the truth.
It’s the raising of my voice - which longs to be heard.
It’s a simple call to listen - and hear ev’ry word.
It’s the chord of the people - that I play for you.
It’s the cry of the balladeer - to sing out the truth.

"DIFFERENCE"
by David Guilbault
She can’t see the difference
In all the shades of blue.
She can’t see what makes your love anew.
She can’t tell the difference
In all the tales of truth.
She’s worrying woes that you already knew.
And you knew it from the start.
You could feel it in your heart.
And the difference was always the best part.
She locks the doors when she’s inside.
You leave the windows open wide.
There’s a difference in how you both abide.
She says all the difference
Will bring this to an end.
She doesn’t see a way to make amends.
You say all the difference
Makes the two of you as one.
You say your love has only just begun.
And you knew it from the start.
You could feel it in your heart.
And the difference was always the best part.
There’s only one way for this to go.
She’s the belle and you’re the beau.
The difference can only make love grow.

"I CAN'T STAY"
by David Guilbault
I can’t stay - in this mind
While I wrestle with the words,
All said unkind.
I’ve gotta flee from the tragedy of you and me.
I can’t stay - in this hurt.
We have put our feelings all
On high alert.
Careful words, meant to hide and blur, still left unheard.
I can’t stay - in this Neverland,
Where we never grow, where we never learn,
Where we never seem to find our loving ground.
I can’t stay - in this guilt.
I need to find a way to reach you
And rebuild.
I can’t stay - in this blame.
I apologize in sorrow
And in shame.
I can’t stay.
I can’t stay - in this Neverland,
Where we never grow, where we never learn,
Where we never seem to find our loving ground.
I can’t stay - in this mind
While I wrestle with the words,
All said unkind.
I gotta be the best of me, for you.

"NOTES ON THE WALL"
by David Guilbault
I can’t read music.
But I can read the notes on the wall.
Feel the moment and use it.
Let my fingers choose where they fall.
The notes ring out.
And the words they shout out loud.
A song is sung.
It has just begun. Take’s a bow to the crowd.
I can’t read music.
But inside I’ve a story to tell.
If it’s true I can use it
And the melody rises and swells.
A tune is born
From the chords forlorn and forlong.
They make themselves known
With a rhythm that they call their own, sweet and strong.
I can’t read music. ... (whistle)
I thank the stars
For the music that’s ours to behold.
And I thank the muse
For the beats and the blues that unfold in my mind.
I can’t read music.
But I can read the notes on the wall.

"SLIVER OF SILVER"
by David Guilbault
There’s a sliver of silver - a glitter of gold.
A glint of a gemstone - in the stories I’ve told.
There’s a hint of a meaning - in a trace of the tune.
Beginnings of scheming
That’s dreaming to end in the truth.
Oh, a sliver of silver.
Oh, a glitter of gold.
Oh, a sliver of silver.
Oh, a glitter of gold.
There’s a lesson for learning - a thought to be known.
An ode to the yearning - that we sought to embold.
There’s a lasting impression - that I mean to leave.
Expressive intentions
That mention the truths to believe.
Oh, those slivers of silver.
Oh, those glitters of gold.

"SOMEBODY ELSE"
by David Guilbault
You could never be yourself with me.
You were somebody else, who I couldn’t see.
When I think of our life.
When I think of our - love, together
I only now realize
That you were - above, knowing.
You could never be yourself with me.
You were somebody else, who I couldn’t see.
Somebody else, who wasn’t honest with me.
When I think of our days.
When I think of our - times, together
I only now see the ways
That you were not mine, so clever.
You could never be yourself with me.
You were somebody else, who I couldn’t see.
Somebody else, who wasn’t honest with me.
Somebody else, you didn’t happen to be.
When I saw you with him
I didn’t know who you - were, together
Diff’rent laugh, diff’rent grin,
Different girl, altogether.
You could never be yourself with me.
You were somebody else, who I couldn’t see.
Somebody else, who was out to be seen.
Somebody else, who flew to be free.
You could never be yourself with me.

"UNSTUCK IN TIME"
by David Guilbault
I can’t remember the future.
I am unstuck in time.
My past is around the bend
Waiting for a moment of mine.
I’m falling out with myself.
Gotta give my mind a good talking to.
I’m calling out on myself.
To stop the lies that helped me to get through.
Through it all
Anything and ev’rything can change in a moment.
After all
Ev’rything is really not the way that it’s supposed to be.
Count the day and count the hours.
Count the weeks and count the years.
Count them down until they start anew
When a spirit leaves a body drowned in tears.
I don’t know the here and now.
Can’t see the where, what or why.
Ev’ry breath now begs a cosmic revelation.
Do we live? Do we know? Do we die?
Through it all
Anything and ev’rything can change in a moment.
After all
Ev’rything is here and now and then and when and time again.
I can’t remember the future.
I am unstuck in time.
My past is around the bend
Waiting for a moment of mine.
